8 October 2015
The NFEC Dialogue Session for Coffeeshops and Eating Houses was held at Foochow Coffee Restaurant & Bar Merchants Association on 8 October 2015 with approximately 30 eating establishment operators attending the dialogue.
Organised by the NFEC Commercial Premises Committee (CPC), Chairman CPC Ms Margaret Heng gave an opening address to thank all participants for their attendance. The dialogue will serve as a useful learning and sharing session for everyone to better understand fire safety and how they can spread its message across the industry.
CPT Dickson Goh & LTA Chen Yan from SCDF kicked off the dialogue by presenting on some of the common fire infringements and hazards found in eating establishments. They shared tips on how to carry out good fire safety practices, including the mandatory requirement to service the Kitchen Exhaust Ducts at least once a year.
MAJ Samuel Koh from SCDF then presented on case studies of fires that occurred at eating establishments, including the common causes of these fires. He also shared fire safety tips on how to prevent such fires.
Participants at the dialogue also had the opportunity to learn emergency preparedness skills like how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The timely intervention of community first responders will definitely help improve the survival rate of a cardiac arrest casualty before the arrival of SCDF ambulances.
